Pioneer New Mexico
He was a doctor with degrees in Romance Languages and Mechanical Engineering, and spent a good bit of the 1950's working in the developing world of atomic sciences in which he "devised systems for teaching abstract math -to explain it simply". And while he always had an interest in the lesser points of world history, it wasn't until his granddaughter was working on a school project and the reference maps were full of historical errors that he was compelled to creation.
He did a series of maps for individual states and regions and they are unparalleled in their reference for early trails, routes, and points of historic interest. This map for New Mexico is a fine example of his scholarship and approach to historic cartography.
