(World) London Atlas map of The World On Mercator's Projection Shewing the British Possessions.
A fine reference for the world, issued in hard covers, bisected, and backed on linen. With a distinctive red color to show British possessions around the globe, it was indeed a period when the sun never set on the British Empire, scanning from east to west an almost consecutive series of lands small or large were part of the greater collective. Two polar projections appear above and below the Mercator projection showing the best of what was known for the regions at the top and bottom of the planet. Does include some historical notations and explorers routes in the southern polar region for Cook, Bellinghausen, Weddell and others.
Condition is very good for both the map and covers. Size is approximately 20 x 24.5 (inches)
